Stanic to miss Croatia test

First Published: Sep 28, 2001

Croatia have seen Chelsea midfielder Mario Stanic pull out of their World Cup squad.

Croatia must beat Belgium in Zagreb to take the one qualifying place on offer from group six and hope that Scotland do not beat Latvia if they lose to Belgium to reach the play-offs.

Stanic has been plagued by injury since his move last year to London from Parma AC and will miss the next four weeks with a muscle strain.

Davor Suker is named again despite having no club to play for and Juventus defender Igor Tudor is also named despite injury problems.

The squad in full -

Goalkeepers - Stipe Pletikosa (Hajduk Split) and Tomislav Butina (Dynamo Zagreb).

Defenders - Dario Simic (Inter), Igor Tudor (Juventus), Stjepan Tomas (Vicencza), Robert Jarni (Las Palmas), Igor Stimac (Hajduk Split) and Robert Kovac (Bayern Munich).

Midfielders - Boris Zivkovic (Bayer Leverkusen), Zvonimir Soldo (VfB Stuttgart), Niko Kovac (Bayern Munich) and Robert Prosinecki (Portsmouth).
