Azerbaijan name World Cup squad
First Published: Sep 29, 2001Azerbaijan have named their squad to face Sweden on October 7th.
The Swedes qualified earlier this month for the finals and the Azeris have no chance of taking a play-off place.
The squad contains 11 players from champions Neftchi
Goalkeepers - Nadir Shukurov (Karabakh) and Jakhangir Gasanzade (Neftchi).
Defenders - Emin Guliyev (Cherno More), Aftandil Gadzhiev (Shafa), Adaim Niftaliev, Rashad Sadygov, Igor Getman, Arif Asadov (all Neftchi), Ilkham Yadullayev and Azer Mamedov (both Shamkir).
Midfielders - Rufat Guliyev (Istehlal), Kamal Guliyev, Tarlan Ahmedov, Bakhtiyar Musayev (all Neftchi), Makhmud Gurbanov (Shamkir) and Emin Imamaliev (Shafa).
Strikers - Gurban Gurbanov, Farrukh Ismaylov, Vadim Vasilyev (all Neftchi) andZaur Tagizade (Shafa).
