Nigeria ask FIFA for help in club row

First Published: Sep 29, 2001

Nigeria want FIFA to force clubs in Europe to release players for their friendly next week against World Cup co-hosts Japan.

The October 7th game is in Southampton but the Nigerians have asked FIFA to intervene and force Dutch club Roda JC to give up Garba Lawal and Joseph Yobo to be released by Marseille for training in London next week. Both clubs are claiming club commitments for holding back their players but leagues are taking a break for the conclusion of World Cup qualifiers in UEFA next weekend.
