Hopeful Chievo make offers for Baggio and Mendieta

Chievo Verona have put in offers for Roberto Baggio and SS Lazio's Spanish midfielder Gaizka Mendieta.

Chievo are chasing a Champions League place with two games to go in the Italian season and have approached both players.

Mendieta has been offered a one year loan spell with veteran Baggio offered a year's contract to leave Brescia next month.

Bologna have also made an offer to Baggio but Chievo president Luca Campedelli is confident his bid for Baggio would succeed.

But his main target is 26 year old Mendieta who was close to agreeing a return to Spain with Atletico Madrid for next season until Lazio snubbed their cash offer.
