Juventus try for Tristan and Ljungberg

First Published: Apr 25, 2002

Juventus are trying to beat AS Roma to the signing of Spanish striker Diego Tristan from Deportivo La Coruna.

The Turin club have sent their general manager Luciano Moggi to Coruna to talk over an offer for the striker after Roma put in months of work to try and secure the forward.

No deal is likely yet as Deportivo weigh up the cash offers for their star but a move for Tristan indicates Juve may consider selling French international David Trezeguet.

Trezeguet has led the club's attack for the past two years but Arsenal are willing to pay £20 million for the former AS Monaco player and add Swedish midfield star Freddie Ljungberg to the deal.

Juventus have looked at Ljungberg all year and may now be tempted to do a deal over Trezeguet who is also wanted by Madrid.

Juve are also bidding to sign River Plate forward Fernando Cavenaghi and their strong interest in centre forwards means Trezeguet may be sold after the World Cup finals.
