Capello to FC Barcelona: "No agreement" says Roma coach

First Published: Feb 22, 2002

AS Roma coach Fabio Capello says he has not had any talks with FC Barcelona about a move to the Catalan giants.

"This or that club can buy us the coaches at any moment. But I am confirming that Barcelona and I have not achieved any agreement as of today," Capello told libredirecto.com.

FC Barcelona coach Carles Rexach says he would not be surprised if AS Roma coach Fabio Capello moves to the Catalan giants.

Barca drew 1-1 with the Italian title holders in the Champions League on Tuesday night with Capello linked to the Camp Nou job to replace Rexach next season.

"Capello is the new Barcelona coach ?" said Rexach before the game.

"I am not surprised."

Capello denies that he is to leave Roma in June but the capital city club have joined the hunt for Chievo Verona coach Luigi Del Neri if Capello does decide to take up Barcelona's long-standing interest in him.

The former Milan coach led Madrid to the 1997 championship in his only season in Spain so far.
