Vivas injury worry for Inter and Argentina

First Published: Feb 25, 2002

Argentina defender Nelson Vivas is now a doubt for the World Cup finals after injuring his knee at the weekend.

The Internazionale right back has been sent for tests on a knee ligament strain picked up in the Milan club's 3-2 win at Udinese which kept them joint top of Serie A.

The former Arsenal defender is a regular for Argentina coach Marcelo Bielsa and has been sent for tests on the injury with Inter's doctors fearing a ligament tear.

A tear could mean surgery to repair the damaged muscle and would almost certainly rule Vias out of the climax to Inter's league title tilt this season and the World Cup squad to be named in the last week of May.
