Tunisia want Novellino as World Cup coach

First Published: Feb 27, 2002

Tunisia have asked Piacenza coach Walter Novellino to lead them at the World Cup finals.

The Tunisian federation want to dump Henri Michel from his second spell in charge of the national team after a poor African nations Cup showing which ended in feuds and recriminations with the French coach lambasting his senior players for lack of effort.

'Gazzetta dello Sport' newspaper claims Novellino has received two faxes from the Tunisians to work from mid-May with their World Cup squad.

Piacenza are in relegation trouble in Serie A with their league future unlikely to be settled before the end of the season on may 5th.

Novellino has been offered a three month contract to cover the World Cup finals and preparations.
