Chinese defender Sun Jihai's move to Manchester City has been blocked.
The first division side have failed to agree a transfer fee with Chinese club Dalian Shide for the former Crystal palace player.
Dalian rate the 26 year old Sun at around £2 million but City were offering less which could see Newcastle look again at buying Sun.
City won 4-1 at Ipswich Town last night to set up a Fifth Round FA Cup tie at Newcastle for their former manager Kevin Keegan who is now in charge at the Manchester club after seven years at Newcastle in the 1990s.
Sun is training this week in Kunming with the national team ahead of the 2002 World Cup finals.
