Bolton sack clubber Diawara

First Published: Jan 29, 2002

Premiership side Bolton Wanderers have terminated the loan deal they arranged with Senegal defender Djibril Diawara for disciplinary offences.

Bolton say the defender ignored pre-match drinking bans and night curfews ahead of games.

The player has now been sent back to Torino in Serie A.

"We cannot condone whatsoever the way Djibril has conducted himself over the last few weeks," a Bolton press release said today

"We are extremely disappointed in his actions, and the club have had no alternative but to terminate his contract with immediate effect.

"Professional footballers are role models and have a responsibility to the community and their fans. They should act in a dignified and lawful manner."

Bolton host Manchester United tonight and decided to dump Diawara after he was regularly seen in local bars and clubs.
