Liverpool land Everton defender Xavier
First Published: Jan 29, 2002Liverpool are to sign Portuguese defender Abel Xavier from Merseyside rivals Everton.
Personal terms on the £750,000 deal agreed by the two clubs today for the 29 year old means only medical tests are needed to complete the deal later tonight ahead f the Champions League player registration deadline on January 31st.
Midfielder Nick Barmby moved from Everton to Liverpool in July 200 but transfer business between the two clubs is rare.
Everton put Xavier up for sale last week after failing to agree a new contract with the centre back who was free to leave Everton for nothing as a free agent in June.
The player was at Liverpool's Melwood training ground yesterday to discuss the transfer which is going through today.
