Ronaldo: "I scored like Romario"

Ronaldo says he is out to bury the bitter memory of the 1998 World Cup final defeat in Paris by France.

The striker scored the winner in today’s semi final victory over Germany but suffered a seizure in the hours leading up to the 1998 final defeat by France.

The 25 year old saw injury problems prevent him from playing any part in Brazil’s problematic qualifying campaign with current coach Luiz Felipe Scolari the fourth to take charge of the side. he only returned to the Brazil scoring charts last month in a friendly against Malaysia and is now the top scorer at the World Cup finals with six goals in six matches ahead of team mate Rivaldo and Germany’s Miroslav Klose on 5 goals each.

"We know the emotion of reaching a final from 1998," Ronaldo said after today’s win.

"But we must concentrate now. We must not think it is over and let our heads go up into the clouds."

"It was a Romario-style goal," he said of his wining wefort in the 49th minute which saw him toe poke the ball on the run before Turkey goalkeeper Rustu Recber could anticipate the shot.

"It was not a beautiful goal but it was important."

"Turkey were well-organised. They are a very good team who deserved to be in the semi-finals," he said.
