MetroStars striker Clint Mathis is wanted by Manchester City.

The US national team star is almost certain to go to the World Cup finals in May and City hope to sign him before he leaves and they start next season back in the Premiership.

The 25 year returned to the US team after knee surgery last year and is currently their first choice striker.

City manager Kevin Keegan was at the US friendly defeat against Germany in Rostock last Wednesday to look at Mathis and is now preparing an offer for the striker.
