Mexico beat Canada 3-0 in a CONCACAF 2002 World Cup qualifier in Mexico City last night.
Two teams qualify for the next stage and the Mexicans now top Group C with six points from three matches and are reasonably placed to make progress. Trinidad and Tobago are joint top of the section but have only played twice.
Mexico's team play was ineffectual in a close first half when they lacked power in fr4ont of goal when they did manage to put the visitors under pressure.
All that changed in the third minute of the second half when substitute Jose Manuel Abundis met a cross from Miguel Zepeda for a close range finish. An 81st minute own goal from Paul Fenwick when he deflected a free kick from Pavel Pardo sealed the win for Mexico.
