2002 World Cup qualifier - Peru 1 Venezuela 0

Peru failed to impress in a 1-0 win over lowly Venezuela in Lima.

The win offers some hope of 2002 World Cup qualification but they did not look good against a team who have now lost all their matches so far.

Roberto Palacios scored the 70th minute winner when he followed up his own shot which had been saved by Gilberto Angelucci.

After that Ysrael Zuniga hit a post in injury time and the same player had missed an open goal in the first half.

The visitors almost scored early in the game when Giovanne Savarese hit the crossbar with a shot and saw Gabriel Urdanata hit a shot onto the bar when he was in front of an open goal after Ruberth Moran had hit the post in the 77th minute. Urdanata's fluff from the rebound was incredible.
