2002 World Cup - Latvia 0 Scotland 1

First Published: Sep 03, 2000

Fortunate Scotland hit a last minute goal to avoid a draw in this group F match in Riga.

After controlling the game for the whole ninety minutes a defensive failure left Neil McCann alone in front of goal and he only had to push the ball towards the net in the 89th minute to win the game.

Such was the Latvian domination of this game that Scottish coach Craig Brown had to make two substitutions at half time and dump his early tactics that saw defender Matt Elliott fielded as a centre forward with poor results as the home team's passing game took control.
