The Swedish side managed to get an important away victory in Baku's Tofig Bakhramov Stadium in the opening match of World Cup qualifying Group D.

After Anders Svensson surprised the goalkeeper with a 20 metres shot in the 10th minute, Sweden decided not to risk the result and concentrated on defending their winning goal.

Azerbaijan coach Igor Ponomalyo saw his debut spoiled this way by a much more experienced side.
