Coach Enzo Trossero's debut as Switzerland coach was not very pleasant as his side failed to get a home victory in Zurich.

The Swiss side controlled the ball in the first half and created some great chances to score, but with injured Chapuisat out of the team they lacked a real finisher.

In the second half Russia reacted and started playing more seriously until Vladimir Beschasnikh jumped over Stephane Henchoz and headed in a neat cross from Alexander Mostovoi in the 74th minute.
