2002 World Cup - Venezuela 2 Colombia 2

First Published: Apr 25, 2001

Colombia scrambled a draw in San Cristobal with two late goals against Venezuela.

The Venezuelans were let down by poor defending just minutes after they had taken a 2-0 lead in the 83rd minute.

Gerardo Bedoya was left unmarked to head in a free kick on 84 minutes and with two minutes to go the Venezuelans conceded possession and Victor Bonilla hit a low shot on the run to get past goalkeeper Rafael Dudamel.

Colombia were poor throughout and lucky to rescue the game after Alexander Rondon scored in the 22nd minute with a header and Juan Arango added to their lead with what seemed to be the winning goal when he beat several players on a run into the Colombian defence to score with an angled shot.

Colombia stayed fifth on 19 points from 12 games with Venezuela bottom with only four points and no wins so far.
