AS Roma star Vincenzo Montella scored the only goal in Perugia.
Montella is by no means a regular for the Serie A leaders who are preparing for the Rome derby against SS Lazio at the weekend. The former Sampdoria player has scored 15 goals in only eighteen starts so far this season and is the form striker in Italy.
Stefano Fiore played the striker in on goal when he clipped the ball through past a square South Africa defence and Montella produced an intelligent finish by lifting the ball over goalkeeper Hans Vonk.
Earlier Vonk had saved a 25th minute penalty from Filippo Inzaghi after Montella had been fouled by Frank Schoeman.
FC Barcelona scouts saw new Italian cap and Perugia midfielder Fabio Liverani replaced at half time by Fiore who set up the goal in the 54th minute.
