France 4 Portugal 0

Zinedine Zidane produced an exceptional first half display to help France outclass Portugal.

His guiding influence proved decisive in helping the French attack and Sylvain Wiltord scored the first goal in the 17th minute when his Arsenal team mate Robert Pires put him clear to hit the target with a low finish.

Mickael Silvestre volleyed in after Patrick Vieira had touched on a corner kick from Emmanuel Petit in the 32nd minute for the defender to respond quickly with his shot.

Two minutes later France were three goals up after Pires steamed past a loose attempt at offside from the Portuguese to set up Thierry Henry to drive past goalkeeper Quim.

Henry set up the only goal of the second half when he crossed for Youri Djorkaeff - who replaced Zidane at half time - to steer in a low shot on his return to the side after a nine month absence.
