2002 World Cup - Jamaica 1 Honduras 1

First Published: Apr 26, 2001

Jamaica failed to take advantage of some good chances and had to settle for a 1-1 draw in Kingston against Honduras.

The Jamaicans were without captain skipper Linval Dixon and defender Christopher Dawes with injuries while Tyrone Marshall was suspended with Daryl Powell and Barry Hayles also missing. They are now in fourth place in the CONCACAF qualifying section of six teams.

They even came close to losing this game with Honduras missing a 72nd minute penalty but the visiting team eventually drew level in the 80th minute.

But they are level on four points with Costa Rica and Mexico and are still in contention to reach the second half and showed plenty of calm possession to dominate midfield but without threatening too many attacks in the first half.

They claimed the lead in the second half when Ricardo Gardner swung a corner kick straight into the net.

Honduran substitute Julio Leon won a penalty when Fabian Davis halted his run to goal with a foul with Jamaican goalkeeper Donovan Ricketts diving well to save the penalty kick from Reynaldo Calvasquin.

But Calvasquin created the equaliser with a corner kick onto the head of Samuel Caballero.
