2002 World Cup - Uzbekistan 2 Jordan 2

First Published: Apr 27, 2001

Jordan threw away a 2-0 lead in Tashkent to draw 2-2 with Uzbekistan but had the excuse of being down to ten men.

Badran Al-Shaqran was put clear by a defensive error to score with a low finish in the 13th minute and Esam Abu Touk added the second after beating goalkeeper Oleg Belyakov with a dipping shot from 40 metres that was a spectacular effort.

Jordan's Yugoslav coach Branko Rajovic was angered by what he thought was biased refereeing for the home side and refused to talk to reports after the game and Mah'd Omar Shilbayeh was sent off for a second booking in the 77th minute but by then his side had buckled under pressure.

Uzbek midfielder Vladimir Maminov hit a 53rd minute penalty and Nikolai Shirshov scored a good equaliser by weaving past three defenders to hit in a cross shot.

Turkmenistan beat Taiwan 5-0 earlier in the day and they are one pint behind the Uzbeks in Asia group seven with Jordan two points back on four points.

The group concludes next week in Amman with the winner going through to the second round of qualifying.
