Japan found it easy to pick up the first Oceania Cup as they defeated Australia 3-0 in Shizuoka.
Although the Australians travelled to Japan without several top European stars such as Harry Kewell and Mark Viduka, Philippe Troussier's side produced a tidy second half performance to record a heavy win.
Australia dominated the early possession but Hiroaki Morishima helped give Japan a 19th minute lead when his scuffed cross went beyond goalkeeper Jason Petkovic who had dived too early and into the path of striker Atsushi Yanagisawa who clipped the ball into an empty net.
Toshihiro Hattori hit the second in the 53rd minute when he sent an angled drive in off the post.
Masashi Nakayama came on as a second half substitute to score from a penalty in the 66th minute.
