Belgium were undone in Helsinki by a master class from Jari Litmanen.
The Liverpool star looked in top form as Finland stormed into a 3-0 lead inside the first half hour.
Litmanen opened the scoring in only the second minute when he found an unmarked Mikael Forssell with a chip for the striker to clip the ball in.
The former Ajax veteran continued the dominate the play and scored himself with a 30th minute penalty which forced Bart Goor to respond to their superiority by snapping the offside trap for a cool finish.
It did little to help the Belgians and West Ham target defender Hannu Tihinen scored from close range in the 79th minute after the visitors failed to clear a cross and the ball rebounded into the goal mouth for Tihinen to stab in.
