Bahrain followed up their draw last week with Saudi Arabia by defeating Iraq 2-0 in their first ever win against the Iraqi team.
Iraq struggled though and showed little in attack during the first half as Bahrain dominated the play. They got their breakthrough in the 58th minute when Talal Youssef reached a loose ball to score with a low finish.
Ghazi al Qawari settled the game in the 81st minute when he reached a driven cross to keep Bahrain on course for a first ever place in the World Cup finals.
For that to happen they need Saudi Arabia to struggle against Iran in Tehran tonight. After the draw with Bahrain last week Yugoslav coach Slobodan Santract could be fired if there is no improvement tonight.
