Saudi Arabia hammered Mongolia 6-0 in Riyadh as their 2002 World Cup campaign got under way.

The negative defending of the away team only saw them thwart the Saudis for ten minutes when Shalhoub struck a low drive and Obaid al-Dosari followed this up from close range to score in the 22nd minute.

Shalhoub scored a second goal with a half volley and a fourth goal was rattled in on 29 minutes but they were far from finished as Abdulghani hit a fifth goal in the 44th minute.

Marzouq al-Otaibi completed the scoring from close range in the 55th minute and Saudie coasted the rest of the game.

The one-sided match followed a dour 0-0 draw between Vietnam and Bangladesh.
