Slovenia 0 Uruguay 2

First Published: Feb 28, 2001

Uruguay used counter attacks to score a goal in each half in Ljubljana.

Home side Slovenia played well throughout but were unable to find a clear chance against the South American team and nervous finishing hindered them when they did get near to goal.

Sevilla striker Nicolas Oliveira sprung the offside trap in the 20th minute with the Slovenians making major appeals against his run but he kept calm and slotted in a low finish.

Substitute Marcelo Zalayeta sealed the win in the 85th minute when he headed in from the goal mouth after a free kick was clipped across the penalty area by Alvaro Recoba.
