Uruguay fielded a second-string team in Medellin and managed a narrow 1-0 win over Bolivia.

The winning goal came in the 64th minute when Javier Chevanton scored from close range to give victory to a team which was unrecognisable from the July 1st squad which defeated Brazil in a Montevideo 2002 World Cup qualifier.

Both teams had only three days to prepare for the Copa after it was rescheduled after being postponed last week.
