Australia scored a late winner to put Brazil coach Emerson Leao closer to the sack.

The Australians have taken third place at the Conmfederations Cup at the expense of leao's shadow Brazil side and the embattled Leao labelled the Japanese tournament as "useless" after the defeat.

Sheffield United player Shaun Murphy hit the winning goal in the 83rd minute after a purposeful display by Frank Farina's team against a clearly disinterested Brazil team.

Brazil defenders left Murphy unmarked at a free kick allowing him to get in behind them and power in a header from a Stan Laziridis free kick..

The South American champions did have most of the second half play but failed to create good chances and Leao has won only three times in ten matches.

France outclassed the second string Brazil team on Thursday but only won 2-1 and Leao was forced to leave most of his top players in Europe an Brazil.
