2002 World Cup - Belarus 2 Norway 1

First Published: Mar 28, 2001

A last minute goal from Roman Vasilyuk killed off Norway's realistic hopes of reaching the 2002 World Cup fnals.

Belarus go second in the section and Norway stay bottom.

Kyiv Dynamo midfielder Alexander Khatskevich put Belarus ahead after 19 minutes when he reached a cross from club team mate Valentin Belkevich to head into the top corner of Thomas Myrhe's net.

Manchester United star Ole Gunnar Solskjaer gave Norway a chance to get back into the game with a headed equaliser on 68 minutes when the home team lost concentration. But Belarus increased the pressure as they looked for a winner and got what they deserved against a team in a dire run of form when Vasilyuk scored from close range to win the game in the 89th minute.
