An Alexander Frei hat-trick helped Switzerland to a 5-0 World Cup win over Luxembourg.

The Servette Geneva striker gently passed the ball into the net past Luxembourg goalkeeper Alija Besic in the ninth minute of the group one qualifier on his full debut to start the goal scoring.

Frei hit a low shot on 31 minutes for his second but had to wait until the final few minutes to add his third.

Johann Lonfat finished from close range with a scuffed shot in the 65th minute and Stephane Chapuisat swept in a swerving shot in the 72nd minute.
