2002 World Cup - Paraguay 0 Colombia 4

First Published: Nov 15, 2001

A 4-0 win in Asuncion proved good for nothing as Uruguay took the only available play-off place from Colombia.

Paraguay sealed their place in the finals last month but have crashed to two defeats since and with goalkeeper Jose Luis Chilavert suspended for this game - and the first two matches at the finals next summer - they fell apart quickly.

The visitors were 2-0 up inside 33 minutes with runs from veteran Faustino Asprilla setting up Victor Aristazabal for close range finishes.

Aristizabal completed his hat trick in the 62nd minute with a low shot on the run with Rafael Castillo ending the scoring but Uruguay's comfortable draw in Montevideo making it all irrelevant.
