Yugoslavia scored six goals for nothing in Belgrade as Slovenia's home win over the Faroe Islands saw the Yugoslavs edged out of a play-off place.
Chelsea's Slavisa Jokanovic put Yugoslavia into the lead in the 19th minute with a low drive but then Rene Peters equalised from close range in the 38th minute and a 51st minute chip on the run from Marcel Christophe game Luxembourg an amazing lead.
Predrag Mijatovic equalised from close range and his team then took charge with close range drives from Mateja Kezman on the hour mark and Savo Milosevic ninety seconds later saw the Yugoslavs power into control of the game.
Milosevic diverted in a cross in the 68th minute and Kezman steered in the sixth goal in the 72nd minute but it was for nothing in the end.
