First Published: Oct 06, 2001

Denmark demolished Iceland to take their place at the 2002 World Cup finals.

The Danes used the Copenhagen match for shooting practice and ended group three with 22 points and unbeaten.

Dennis Rommedahl opened the scoring in the 12th minute when he followed up a drive which came back off a post to score with a shot on the rebound. Two minutes later the Danes all but sealed their win when Ebbe Sand headed in a chip forward from Thomas Gravesen that lopped over goalkeeper Arni Gautur Arason.

Gravesen made it 3-0 in the 29th minute when the Icelandic defence conceded possession and he chipped Arason to find the empty net. Gravesen hit his second with a low drive and Sand completed his brace by heading in at close range in the 67th minute.

Substitute Jan Michaelsen ended the scoring when he reached an injury time cross to steer the ball in.
