2002 World Cup - Norway 3 Wales 2

First Published: Sep 05, 2001

Ryan Giggs was sent off as Wales went down 3-2 in Oslo to give Norway some hope of a play-off place.

This was Giggs' first red card in his career and came for two bookings with the second yellow arriving in the 86th minute after his team had twice blown the lead.

Robbie Savage gave the visitors the lead with a great volley from distance in the 11th minute and then on 27 minutes Craig Bellamy pounced from close range after Norwegian goalkeeper Thomas Myrhe failed to hang onto a snap shot from Giggs. That gave Wales the lead again after Ronnie Johnsen had equalised from close range.

John Carew led Norway back into the game with the second equaliser when he reached a loose ball and Frode Johnsen won the game after heading in a John Arne Riise corner kick.
