Captain Andy Herzog scored both goals as Austria looked close to reaching the play-offs in Vienna.

On his 90th appearance for Austria the midfielder half-volleyed an Ivica Vastic cross into the net in the 39th minute and then four minutes from the end hit in a loose ball to leave Austria needing only a draw in Israel to reach the play-offs. Austria have 14 points from seven games while Israel have 11 from seven and Israel need to win the last game to deny Austria a place in the November games.
