Honduras stayed on course for the 2002 World Cup finals by beating Jamaica 1-0 in Tegucigalpa.
The Hondurans are now in second place with Mexico in third and the US dropping to fourth place after defeat in Costa Rica.
That win saw Cosat Rica qualify for the finals.
Carlos Pavon had the two best chances of the first half which Jamaican goalkeeper Aaron Lawrence parried while Julio de Leon hit the post with a drive in the 23rd minute for the home team.
It needed an own goal to break down the Jamaican defence.
Milton Nunez crossed and in trying to clear the ball Christopher Dodd sent it high into the net.
Honduras meet Trinidad next month but face a trip to Mexico City in November and may need at least a point to reach the finals from that game.
