The Bahrain team have five points from three matches so far but Iran can overtake them at the top of the section if they defeat Iraq. Iraq, Iran and Saudi Arabia each have four points.
Bahrain took the lead in the 17th minute when Khaled Al-Dossari hit a dipping and curling free kick to beat goalkeeper Rawangpa Kittisak.
That Thais almost equalised from a free kick themselves four minutes later but goalkeeper Al-Rouai dived and saved to turns away a powerful shot from Pituratana Sakesan. Sripan Tawan later skimmed a shot along the top of the crossbar and the signals were clear that the visitors were dangerous on the break despite Bahrain's control of possession.
The Thais scored a 64th minute equaliser when Kiatisuk Sonamuany found space to finish after a cross evaded the Bahrain defence when they lost possession and allowed the Thai team to break.
