Uruguay came from behind to draw in Milan.
The draw came after news confirming Italy would be retaining their coach after the World Cup finals.
Giovanni Trapattoni is to turn down an offer from SS Lazio and sign a contract extension with the Italian federation.
The 63 year old's current deal is to run out in June after the World Cup finals but is to take up the offer of a two year conract extension to 2004 taking charge of the Euro 2004 campaign for Italy.
Trapattoni met with Italian Football Federation (FIGC) president Franco Carraro earlier today and agreed to stay in a job which has seen his side lose only once in 15 matches.
Italy took the lead after 74 minutes with a header by Christian Panucci but three minutes later Uruguay equalised through substitute Sebastian Abreu although the ball was helped over the line by Italy's substitute goalkeeper Francesco Toldo as he tried to pull off a save.
JJuventus defender Gianluca Pessotto lasted only five minutes of the game before withdrawing with a leg and Italy had been plagued by injury problems in the run-in to this low-key friendly.
Uruguay almost took the lead when Dario Silva drew out goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon and put the ball through to Inter striker Alvaro Recoba but Alessio Tacchinardi went to ground well to make a saving tackle.
Gianluca Zambrotta had a shot saved by Fabian Carini who turned the ball to Filippo Inzaghi but he missed an open goal and it was left to susbtitute Vincenzo Montella to hit the target in the second half which substitute keeper Gustavo Munua parried well.
Panucci scored with a header from the resulting corner but substitute Richard Morales crossed from the left shortly after for Abreu to divert the ball in through Toldo's save.
Marco Di Vaio clipped the post with a shot in the final moments to end the action.
