Croatia started their World Cup preparations with a miserable draw in Rijeka.

Debuting striker Ivica Olic set the tone for a night of mistakes by wasting a through pass from Gorn Vlaovic when he was clean through but could not beat the goalkeeper.

The Croats were missing star defender Igor Tudor and veteran strikers Alen Boksic and Davor Suker and Bulgaria almost won the game in the second half when they hit the bar.
