Wales roughed up World Cup favourites Argentina to hold them to a draw.

Argentina needed all their guile to get back into the game with Juan Veron in commanding form in the second session.

Veron came close with a curling effort and then hit the post before sending Julio Cruz through to hit a cross shot into the corner of the net.

A lazy Argentine showing allowed the Welsh team to take the lead.

In the 39th minute Ryan Giggs swung in a corner kick from the left which reached Newcastle United striker Craig Bellamy who was unmarked at the far post and he headed into the corner of the net.

Argentina had started looking comfortable under the enclosed roof at the Millennium stadium in Cardiff with Juan Sebastian Veron governing the play.

Welsh goalkeeper Matthew Jones produced a good double save from midfielder Claudio Husain and veteran Claudio Caniggia in the only scare of the first half for the home team whose physical presence seemed to wear down the South American side.

Combative midfielder Robbie Savage was ytellow carded in the 4th minute and several heavy tackles during the half allowed the Welsh to take control and unhinge Argentina.
