Mexico lost 2-1 to Yugoslavia in Phoenix, Arizona in a game dominated by the European side.
The Yugoslavs are now coached by former Milan star Dejan Savicevic and they overran Mexico in the first half.
In the 37th minute Mateja Kezman smashed in a long range hot and Predrag Mijatovic pressed home the advantage to find Savo Milosevic at the far post with a cross which he diverted into the net.
The game dissolved into a mass of substitutions in the second half but Mexico found the net when substitute Jesus Mendoza headed in a cross that was cut back by Jesus Arellano. Jared Borgetti missed an open goal in the second half when he skidded a header wide of the target and Mexico were by that time helped by a red card for Dejan Stankovic for a second bookable offence.
