The United States scored an injury time winner to defeat 10-man World Cup co-hosts South Korea.
The sides meet in the group stage at the World Cup finals in June and DaMarcus Beasley was put clear to score from close range in the dying seconds.
But the US started badly when defender Danny Califf brought down Choi Yong-Soo in the seventh minute to concede a penalty only for Yoo Sang-Chul to waste the chance by hitting the ball straight at goalkeeper Kasey Keller
Landon Donovan took advantage of that error by putting the home team into the lead in the 35th minute when Ante Rezov played him through with a nicely weighted ball for the teenage striker to lift the bal over advancing goalkepeer Lee Woon Jae for an excellent finish.
The US dropped their concentration and Korea equalised three minutes later when Song Chong-Gug hit a long range curling shot on the run beyond Keller and high into the net.
Korea went down to ten men in the 55th minute with the ejection of Choi Jin-Seul for pulling down Donovan on a break to end a spell when Guus Hiddink's team had dominated.
Just a minute before the red card a cross had destroyed the US defence which they failed to clear six times as it pinged around the penalty area before being cleared off the line.
But Korea continued to play well after the dismissal and dominnate possession until Beasley robbed them of a deserved draw.
Mexico had earlier defeated El Salvador 1-0 at the Pasadena Rose Bowl when Jair Garcia scored in the 30th minute steering in a chance after Salvador goalkeeper Santos Rivera had dropped a cross from Tomas Campos that lured him from goal.
Costa Rica beat Martinique 2-0 and defending Gold Cup champions Canada beat Haiti 2-0.
