South Korea reached the Gold Cup semi final with a penalty shootout win over Mexico.

Goalkeeper Kim Byung-Ji won the Rose Bowl quarter final with two exceptional saves in the shootout after a 0-0 draw following 120 minutes.

Luis Sosa and Ignacio Hierro saw their spot kicks parried by diving saves from Kim allowing before Lee Eul-Young clinch the game for Korea who had seen Dutch coach Guus Hiddink red carded during extra time.

The actual game was dire and Hiddink was luckier than the fans to miss the end of it.

It took until the 95th minute for a shot on target when Kim Nam-il produced a good save from Adrian Martinez with a low effort.

Substitute Anh Hyo-Yeon also tested Martinez in injury time of a poor encounter which Mexico should have been able to finish earlier.
