Russia lost 5-4 on penalties to Belarus after a 1-1 draw to go out of a friendly tournament at the semi finals.

Russian coach Oleg Romantsev used an experimental line-up and his side were a goal down in the 15th minute when midfielder Valentin Belkevich hit a low drive from distance beyond goalkeeper Ruslan Nigmatullin.

But the Russians were let back into the game on the half hour when Belarus captain Sergei Gurenko brought down winger Denis Laktionov to concede a penalty which Andrei Solomatin scored.

Russia now meet Yugoslavia on Sunday to conclude the mini-tournament.
