Hong Kong XI 0 Turkey 2

First Published: May 20, 2002

Turkey geared up for their first showing at a World Cup finals in 42 years with an easy win over a Hong Kong XI.

Coach Senol Gunes is set to confirm his squad for the finals tomorrow and he used 23 players as Galatasaray winger Hasan Sas and Parma AC forward Hakan Sukur scored.

Sas was fouled by Yiu Cheuk Poon to concede a 20th minute penalty which veteran Sukur drove in and the pair combined well on the edge of the area just before half-time Sas to go clear and hit an angled shot into the net. Only The home side's chasing and hard-running kept the scoreline down in the second half as Turkey dominated impressively with perhaps more to come.
