England conceded a lead given to them by Michael Owen to draw 1-1

Owen scored from close range after 25 minutes to put England into the lead against the World Cup co-hosts.

Midfielder Paul Scholes saw a shot blocked by goalkeeper Lee close to goal and the rebound offered a chance for England's top scorer to trundle the ball in.

But Korea equalised in the 52nd minute when Yet Choi got well away from marker Martin Keown at a corner to nod on for Park-ji Sung to drive past substitute David James after Teddy Sheringham had missed a tackle.

The panic in the England defence came after two corners from Lee Young-po with the second an accurate outswinger which the visitors failed to defend.

A largely experimental England side saw starts for goalkeeper Nigel Martyn, defenders Owen Hargreaves and Danny Mills at left-back along with striker Darius Vassell in a three-man attack as coach Sven Goran Eriksson fielded a team which will provide back-ups and reserves for his first choice line-up against Sweden on June 2nd.

Hargreaves impressed throughout and released Owen for a chip on the run over goalkeeper Lee Woon-jae and a clearance bounced back on target from Vassell forcing Choi Jin-cheul to clear off the line.

Mills contributed to attack and a shot of his after he set up a pass from Danny Murphy hit Choi and came off the crossbar with a long range effort from striker Hong Myung-Bo the most notable chance from the home team which Martyn tipped away.

But Eriksson made seven changes at half-time and Korea grew to control the game but made few chances.
