Singapore 1 Uruguay 2

First Published: May 21, 2002

Two goals from Richard Morales helped Uruguay overcome Singapore with a stumbling performance.

Manchester United's goal-shy striker set up Morales for his first on 25 minutes when the striker avoided defenders to reach a cross from the right wing that was driven ahead of him.

He headed the winner in the 75th minute when he was left unmarked at a far post corner kick but inbetween Uruguay were poor.

Substitute Indra Sahdan Daud was hauled down by goalkeeper Federico Elduayen five minutes later to concede a penalty which he converted and Singapore finished very strongly as the South Americans struggled in strength-sapping humidity but Alvaro Recoba, hard-man defender Paolo Montero, Dario Silva and Sebastian Abreu all missed the game to stay behind at Uruguay's training base along with seven others.
