The vast majority of Turkey is of course in Asia. The Ukraine would probably be considered a European country. As for Kazakhstan, UEFA were claiming that a certain percentage (1/3?) of their teritory was condsidered European so they were accepted recently into UEFA. Personally I also thought that Kazakhstan was an Asian country although the borders of Europe in tht area are not clear to me. If UEFA are correct then I would say that we are the only UEFA member country with no territory in Europe.

: Actually, Israel was never banned, they left of their own accord. But the reason was pretty close to what you suggest. Teams like Lebanon, Jordan, Syria, Iraq (etc) refused to play them, so they would win matches by default. Not only did this prevent their teams from getting much playing experience, but it made even their victories seem "cheap", because there would always be people who said "oh sure, they won the tournament, but only because they didnt have to play four of the scheduled matches" . . . or something along those lines.

Yes and one other little known fact is that we are one of the founding members of the Asian Federation. Later we played many years in Oceania but due to severe inconvenience we asked to join UEFA and were finally accepted in 1992.
